Is anyone out their seeing the changes in our economy and how it is affecting the renting industry especially for small landlords. Recently their was a documentary on social housing in the city of Toronto. We were astounded to see the magnitude of repairs required and the response of Metro Housing Authorities. Here we watched these high end paid professionals sit back and watch this environment rot. The absence of care and thought was shocking, more surprising was learning that the landlord and tenant tribunal does not apply to Toronto Housing. Once again it amazed us to see the burden being placed on private landlords and the double standard practiced by our government.
It made us wonder if tenants in the private sector were taking note of the horrific practices and how lucky some of them have it. We know with the new practices put in place by the government, the interest to go into this business seems to be lessened once people learn of the unfair practices put in place.
Recently we learned of a tenant that moved without notice, later sued a landlord with out their knowledge win a verdict with monetary value and then proceed to go to a collections agency who then went to Superior Court to get a garnishment. The amount was significant considering all the facts were based on lies. The landlord was furious. To a point that their is no way to even begin to negotiate with a lie. If anyone has ever dealt with such a matter and was able to surpass it please email us here and let us know so we can help this landlord.
The sad part to the story that in the past year alone we have heard countless stories of tenants robbing and hurting landlords because their is a system set up by the government that seems to support such outrageous acts.
At some point we pray that landlords become one and this system will change to include land owners so they are respected and treated with dignity by the very industry they are trying to serve.
